Two air distribution systems, one selection discipline
Pro-Flo and Pro-Flo SHIFT are WILDEN air distribution system families. A choice between them should be based on the complete pump and duty, rather than on the family name alone. Wetted materials, diaphragm configuration, connections and installation conditions still determine whether a particular model fits the process.
What SHIFT changes
WILDEN describes the Pro-Flo SHIFT air control spool as a way to limit unnecessary filling of the air chamber. The engineering question for a buyer is how that design affects air consumption at the required liquid flow and discharge pressure. Do not translate a manufacturer headline saving into a guaranteed percentage for an unmeasured installation.
Compare at an equivalent operating point
Record the existing delivered flow, fluid temperature, pressure conditions and air consumption if measured. Compare candidate configurations at the same useful output. An apparent saving that comes from reducing liquid delivery is not an equivalent comparison. Include the effects of suction restrictions, a dirty filter and air-line pressure drop in the investigation.
Consider the maintenance context
Identify the air distribution system fitted to the existing pump before ordering an air kit. A familiar connection size or housing appearance is insufficient evidence of kit compatibility. If an upgrade is considered, obtain the exact documented retrofit scope; do not assume that replacing one visible component converts every pump between families.
What to request with a quotation
Ask for the complete model code, applicable performance curve, stated test assumptions and exact kit references. For a running installation, attach operating measurements and an equipment photograph. This makes the comparison useful to purchasing and maintenance teams as well as the process engineer.
